About the Project
This project installed a temporary modular mini roundabout at the intersection of Ravensworth Road and Jayhawk Street in Annandale.
The modular roundabout was built using recycled composite materials that VDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will evaluate for installation, function and maintenance.
VDOT identified the intersection as a candidate for the pilot project as it met thresholds for a traffic signal, and the roundabout was able to be installed at this intersection with no new pavement, utility relocations, drainage or other work.
VDOT will also evaluate the function of the intersection with the new roundabout, which aims to provide safety and operational improvements to move more vehicles through the intersection with fewer delays.
VDOT began installing the roundabout and modular islands in May 2018 and completed construction in June 2018. VDOT is maintaining the roundabout.
The FHWA held an information meeting June 5, 2017.
