All northbound lanes are closed with multiple vehicle crashes

7:25 a.m. UPDATE: I-95 northbound is now open. Crews removed snow, applied salt and sand to the travel lanes. Expect residual delays.

Interstate 95 northbound in the City of Fredericksburg is closed at mile marker 129 with multiple vehicle crashes.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed I-95 northbound to remove snow and apply abrasives to the travel lanes in this area.

VDOT advises motorists to avoid or reduce travel, if possible, to allow crews to safely remove snow, treat the roads and provide emergency workers room to respond.

If you must travel, check road conditions by going to 511Virginia before starting a trip for real-time information.

What Motorists Should Know

  • Plan to delay unnecessary travel during and immediately after the snow
  • Residents are encouraged to consider that if their driveway or sidewalk is too icy or slick for walking, road conditions may also be slippery
  • If you must travel, plan to allow extra time for your trip, slow down, and increase following distance between vehicles
  • Use additional caution while traveling on bridges, ramps and overpasses, which freeze first due to lower surface temperatures, as well as on roads carrying lighter traffic volume

VDOT’s 14-county Fredericksburg District includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford in the Fredericksburg area; Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties in the Northern Neck; Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex counties in the Middle Peninsula
