BEDFORD COUNTY: Route 644 Bridge Replacement Over Big Otter River

Route 644 (Lankford Road) will be closed for a bridge replacement project over Big Otter River beginning January 9, 2020. The bridge will be closed with a detour in place for approximately 11 months beginning October 2019 through November 2020. The detour may be up to nine miles so drivers should expect delays in travel times and plan accordingly. The project is expected to be completed in November 2020.


BOTETOURT COUNTY: Route 603 (Zimmerman Road) Closure

Route 603, Zimmerman Road, in Botetourt County, is closed to through traffic for a rural rustic project. The 0.4 mile rural rustic project will be performed on Route 603, Zimmerman Road, from West Road to Pebble Road, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The work will consist of cross and driveway pipe replacements to improve drainage, slope and shoulder work and placing a hard surface on the roadway. Due to the narrow, steep and curvy work zone area, the road is expected to be closed to through traffic for approximately six to eight weeks. Residents in the area will have access to their homes, but should expect delays. Signs will alert drivers of the closure. Once the drainage and slope work on the project is complete in 2019, surface treatment on the road will be performed in spring 2020.


CRAIG COUNTY: Route 606 (Caldwell Mountain Road) Closure for Pipe Replacement

On or about April 1, 2020, Route 606 (Caldwell Mountain Road) in Craig County will be closed for a pipe replacement. The project is located approximately 1100 feet east of the intersection of Route 606 (Caldwell Mountain Road and Route 612 (Patterson Creek Road). Route 606 (Caldwell Mountain Road) will be closed from the intersection of Route 612 (Patterson Creek Road) to the Botetourt County line. Message boards will alert drivers of the closure and drivers will need to seek alternate routes. Local residents within the closure will be able to access their homes. The road is expected to reopen May 2020.


FRANKLIN COUNTY: Route 122 Bridge Replacement Over Blackwater River

Route 122 (Booker T Washington Highway) will be under a flagging operation during daytime hours for a bridge replacement project over Blackwater River. The bridge is located between Route 40 and the intersection with Angle Plantation Road. Drivers can expect some delays for flagging during construction of the new bridge, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. A barrier wall will be in place. The project is expected to be completed in November 2020.


MONTGOMERY COUNTY: Route 603 (North Fork Road) Bridge Replacement Over Flatwood Branch

On or about July 13, 2020, Route 603 (North Fork Road) in Montgomery County will be closed for a bridge replacement over Flatwood Branch from the intersection of Route 713 to .01 miles south of the intersection of Route 647. During this time, a detour will be utilized and directional signs will be in place to assist the traveling public. Weather permitting, the bridge is expected to reopen November 2020 with work expected to be completed December 2020.  

  • Detour Routes:

    • Northbound traffic will turn left from Route 603 (North Fork Road) onto Route 622 (Reesedale Road) and continue for 2.7 miles where Reesedale Road becomes Route 713 (Flatwoods Branch). Continue for 1.0 mile to the intersection of Route 603 (North Fork Road). Turn left onto Route 603 (North Fork Road) to head towards I-81.

    • Southboundtraffic will turn right from Route 603 (North Fork Road) onto Route 713 (Flatwoods Branch) and continue for 1.0 mile until it becomes Route 622 (Reesedale Road) Continue for 2.7 miles to the intersection of Route 603 (North Fork Road). Turn right onto Route 603 (North Fork Road) to head towards Blacksburg.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY: Route 636 Bridge Replacement Over Roanoke River at Seneca Hollow

Work has begun replacing the bridge on Route 636 over the Roanoke River at Seneca Hollow. This work will require a road closure, beginning on June 26, from Echo Hills Road to .36 mile south of Route 460. A detour will be in place. The detour will restrict access to Route 460 at Seneca Hollow and will require travelers to enter/exit Route 460 at Friendship Road near Wheeling Hollow. The project is expected to be completed in late June 2021. 


ROANOKE COUNTY: ROUTE 221 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT WITH BOX CULVERT OVER MARTINS CREEK

Work is set to begin on the existing bridge on Route 221 over Martins Creek for a replacement of a box culvert at the intersection with Route 696 (Martins Creek Rd). Once construction is underway, a temporary road section will be built first and installed to the north and next to the existing road for maintenance of traffic during removal of the existing bridge and installation of a new box culvert. The speed limit throughout the work zone will be reduced. Traffic will be switched to the temporary section of road in September 2020 and will remain in this configuration through the end of the project until traffic can be switched onto the new bridge. Estimated completion is fall 2021.


PATRICK COUNTY: Route 772 Bridge Replacement Over Spoon Creek

On Tuesday, July 23, 2019, Route 772 (Old Mill Road) in Patrick County will be closed for a bridge replacement over Spoon Creek for approximately nine months. During this time, a detour will be utilized and directional signs will be in place to assist the traveling public. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed May 2020.  


PULASKI COUNTY: Route 100 Bridge Replacement Over the Railroad

Two bridge replacements are underway on Route 100 in Dublin. The bridges are located over Route 11 and over the railroad.  Drivers can expect lane closures and heavy trucks entering and exiting the roadway during daytime hours, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lanes will be reduced to one lane in both directions from late fall through the duration of the project. Route 100 Southbound will continue to serve as the Route 100 northbound and southbound lanes. Width restriction of 10 feet in place with no wide loads allowed. Message boards will alert drivers. Work is anticipated to be complete by April 2020.
