Project Description

The primary purpose of this project was to permanently relocate and increase capacity of the Park & Ride to meet future demands. The new park and ride is now located at the Intersection of Route 460 Bypass and Route 11/460 Business and Intersection Route 11/460 Business and Simmons Road.

The existing Park & Ride had parking for approximately 61 vehicles and the new facility has the capacity for approximately 270. The original Park & Ride facility was 150-feet by 220-feet in size, or approximately 1.1 acres. The new expanded facility is 500-feet by 350-feet in size, or approximately 5.2 acres.

Improvements included:
• Increased existing parking spaces from 61 to 270
• Installment of three bus shelters, bike racks and handicap parking and accommodations
• Installed new lighting
• Installed new sidewalks

VDOT constructed the first (original) Park and Ride facility at I-81 Exit 118 in the late 1990’s and was located in the southwest quadrant of the I-81/ Route 460 Bypass interchange. This original Park & Ride was recently relocated (in July 2014) to its present, temporary location along Route 11/460 Business (Roanoke Street), just east of the Route 460 Bypass/Route 460 Business (Roanoke Street) intersection.
