What's Being Done

The purpose of the four projects was to improve the vertical and horizontal alignments along Newbys Bridge Road (Route 649) between the intersection near Sussex Drive and the intersection at Celestial Lane in Chesterfield County.

The roadway was widened from 20 ft. to 22 ft. with 8 ft. shoulders. These improvements now meet VDOT’s standard for Urban Minor Arterial roadways by it's reduction in the curvature and the sight distance improvement along the corridor.

Traffic Impacts

All traffic impacts are complete. Intermittent alternating lane closures occurred weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at two locations on Newbys Bridge Rd. (1) between Sussex Dr. and Millvale Rd. and (2) at the intersection of Burnett Dr.

A temporary detour was necessary to complete the project.

Public Involvement

A public hearing was held July 22, 2014 at Chalkley Elementary School. A public hearing brochure is available.
