What's Being Done

The purpose of the four projects is to improve the vertical and horizontal alignments along Newbys Bridge Road (Route 649) between the intersection near Sussex Drive and the intersection at Celestial Lane in Chesterfield County.

The new roadway will be widened from the existing 20 ft. to 22 ft. with 8 ft. shoulders. These improvements will meet VDOT’s standard for Urban Minor Arterial roadways by reducing the curvature and improving the sight distance along the corridor. All projects will require the relocation of utilities.

Traffic Impacts

Beginning March 12, there will be intermittent alternating lane closures weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at two locations on Newbys Bridge Rd. (1) between Sussex Rd. and Millvale Rd. and (2) at the intersection of Burnett Dr. through winter 2018.

Update: The temporary detour has been lifted as of August 18.
