The primary purpose of this project was to enhance safety at the intersection of New Cox Road (Route 460) and Courthouse Road (Route 627) in Dinwiddie County. Work included installing new pavement markings, rumble strips and signage.

Unanimously approved by the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors in February 2020, the new traffic pattern will reduce Route 460 to one lane in the vicinity of the intersection and provide more room for vehicles in the median so that they can avoid crossing into oncoming traffic.

The project design can be constructed within existing VDOT right-of-way.

Project graphics

Following the November 2019 meeting, the rendering was again modified and presented the existing conventional intersection with a lane reduction and added pavement markings, rumble strips and signage, rather than the modified U-turn. This change was proposed to the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors in February 2020 and was unanimously approved.

Modified project rendering presented at the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors public meeting on November 19, 2019. The modified rendering reduces Route 460 to one lane in each direction, and features rumble strips and wider U-turn radii to accommodate larger vehicles.

Rendering presented at VDOT public hearing on October 17, 2019

Benefits
