The primary purpose of this project is to beautify the landscape along the I-95 corridor between Hermitage Road and Franklin Street. This project also includes landscaping at the Nine Mile Road/I-64 interchange on the eastern border of Richmond at the Henrico County line and the I-95/I-64 interchange at 5th Street.
The landscaping will include improvements at approaches, entrances and exits along I-95 leading to the local streets. In addition, a gateway sign will be installed near the I-95 north and I-64 east split.
Enhancements began in December 2011 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2016. Landscaping work at the I-64/Nine Mile Road interchange and the I-95/I-64 interchange at 5th Street is complete.
The final phase of the project is currently underway; including landscaping improvements at Interstate 95 and the Boulevard (mile marker 78) and a new gateway sign at the Interstate 95 north-Interstate 64 east split.
The gateway sign construction is underway. Once complete, the sign will be 11 ft. tall and 70 ft. long.
During construction, minimal traffic impacts are expected. Work will be performed within the existing right of way. No work will take place in the travel lanes.
