What's Being Done
A new ramp was constructed from westbound Temple Avenue (Route 144) to northbound Interstate 95 in the city of Colonial Heights. The new, one lane ramp is 2,900 feet long and 12-16 feet wide. It begins near the intersection of Temple Avenue and Conduit Road, and crosses Old Town Creek behind Home Depot to connect with I-95 north.
Benefits
The previous movement to enter I-95 from westbound Temple Avenue required motorists to cut across eastbound traffic. Several crashes resulted at that intersection from that movement. VDOT estimates the new ramp eliminates 60% of the left turns from westbound Temple Avenue to I-95 north.Approximately 33,500 vehicles travel along Temple Avenue between Conduit Road and I-95 per day. It's estimated that 18,810 vehicles will use the new ramp to access I-95 north by 2011.
