What's Being Done
The pavement width and shoulders along Atlee Station Road (Rt. 637) between Honey Meadows Road and Chamberlayne Road (Rt. 301) was widened in each direction. Concrete curbing and gutters were added to the roadway to improve drainage and a traffic signal was installed at the Cool Spring Road intersection. In addition, the intersection of Atlee Station Rd. with Rt. 301 was improved.
Benefits
The purpose of the project was to provide wider travel lanes and shoulders, and improved turn lane access to the adjacent schools and subdivisions. This allows for smoother traffic flow and less congestion. Drainage was also improved throughout the length of the project. A traffic signal was installed at the Cool Spring Road intersection due to the increased volume of motorists entering Atlee Station Road from Cool Spring Road. The grade along Atlee Station Road prior to Rt. 301 was reduced in order to provide motorists with better sight distance.
Project Updates
Modifications will be made to the fence along Atlee Station Road in late 2007. This work will be done using county road maintenance funds and is not associated with this project.Contacts
