In Design: Route 7 and Chestnut Street Median Closure in Fairfax County
Cost and schedule ►

This project would close the median at Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) and Chestnut Street, and extend the left turn lane from eastbound Route 7 to Haycock Road (Route 703).
This project is being financed with federal Highway Safety Improvement Program funds.
Route 7 in the project area averages 31,000 vehicles per day, Chestnut Street averages just under 1,000 vehicles per day and Haycock Road averages 10,000 vehicles per day.
Benefits
This project would improve operations as well as improve safety by eliminating left-turn crashes.
Major Milestones
Public Hearing - October 2018
The start of construction has been postponed to study proposed restrictions on left turns from westbound Route 7 to Chestnut Street during weekday peak afternoon/evening traffic hours. The study results will be considered in determining whether to move forward with the full median closure.
