About the Project
VDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will test a temporary modular mini roundabout at the intersection of Ravensworth Road and Jayhawk Street in Annandale.
The modular roundabout will be built using recycled composite materials that VDOT and FHWA will evaluate for installation, function and maintenance.
VDOT identified the intersection as a candidate for the pilot project as it meets thresholds for a traffic signal, and the roundabout can be installed at this intersection with no new pavement, utility relocations, drainage or other work.
VDOT will also evaluate the function of the intersection with the new roundabout, which aims to provide safety and operational improvements to move more vehicles through the intersection with fewer delays.
VDOT expects to install the roundabout and modular islands this summer. A few days will be needed for construction and will be announced. VDOT will maintain the roundabout.

In scale, the roundabout will be similar to the mini roundabout recently installed by the Town of Vienna at Park and Locust Streets, SE.
