About the Project
This project replaced the deteriorated culvert on Guinea Road over Long Branch in Fairfax County. In the past, flooding overflowed the pipes and overtopped the roadway, causing extensive damage to the pipes, outlet headwalls and roadway pavement, as well as pipe settlement and erosion at the downstream end of the structure. The culvert had deteriorated to the extent where temporary jacking was installed to support the pipes.
The new bridge was built within the existing right of way. It is 54 feet long, and about 15 feet wider and three feet higher than the previous bridge.
About 15,000 vehicles per day use Guinea Road.
