What's Being Done

Centreville Road (Route 657) is being widening from two lanes to six lanes between West Ox Road to Frying Pan Road. This project is a priority within the Fairfax County Government’s Secondary Road Program.

Traffic Impacts

The road widening at Centreville Road, between Frying Pan and West Ox, is mostly complete. Intermittent lane closures will still be performed as necessary in order to complete the remaining work, including the final surface asphalt placement and the activation of the permanent signals within the next few weeks.

Project Updates

Traffic has been switched to a new divided roadway configuration for northbound and southbound traffic. Two lanes in both directions are now open to traffic, including turn lane movements at the West Ox and Frying Pan intersections. Upon completion of the project, there will be three thru lanes and dual left-turn lanes at the Frying Pan and West Ox roads intersections.

Environmental Considerations

During construction, all reasonable efforts will be made to protect the environment with respect to dust control, soil erosion and siltation control and groundwater protection. The contractor has installed perimeter silt fence throughout the project.

During design, all reasonable efforts were made to avoid and minimize impacts to environmental resources such as wetlands, streams and historical sites. No federal environmental document is required at this time; however, any necessary water quality permits required from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Virginia Marine Resources Commission or the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality have been obtained. VDOT will mitigate for any stream and wetland impacts.
