Route 49 Bridge over Aaron's Creek to Close
Detour in place during construction
LYNCHBURG – Motorists who use Route 49, Clarksville Road in Halifax County will begin using alternate routes next week when the bridge over Aaron’s Creek is closed for replacement.
Beginning Monday, January 26, 2015, the road will be closed to all traffic from 0.112 miles west of the Halifax/Mecklenburg County line to 0.077 miles east of the Halifax/Mecklenburg County line. The structure will be removed and a new bridge and approaches put in place. The road is slated to reopen by June 17, 2016.
A signed detour will direct motorists to use Routes 606/1403 and Route 96. An alternate truck detour will be available.
Approximately 680 vehicles use this section of Route 49 each day according to Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) statistics.

Design Public Hearing
A design public hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 4-6 p.m. at Cluster Springs Elementary School, 7091 Huell Matthews Highway (Route 501) in Alton, VA..
The purpose of this project is to replace the structurally deficient bridge over Aaron's Creek at the Halifax/Mecklenburg County line.
