General Project Information

What is being done?
The Greenview Drive Intersection Improvement Project in Lynchburg was designed to widen the intersection to increase capacity and improve sight distances. This was accompanied by widening the intersection from two to four through lanes and adding separate left and right turn lanes in each direction. Vertical sight distances on Greenview Drive and Airport Road were improved by raising the grades on each side of the intersection with Leesville Road.
Additional project features included: sidewalks, shared use paths, new traffic signals, stormwater management facilities, new lighting and landscaping.
Anticipated Traffic Impacts
Traffic was maintained along Greenview Drive and Airport Road throughout construction. Leesville Road was widened with temporary pavement to maintain through/right and left turn lanes during construction and to minimize potential closure periods. Short duration closures on each leg of Leesville Road with temporary detours were required to complete grading work and paving within the intersection.
