What's Being Done

Rehabilitation of the sub- and superstructure of the Carter Glass Bridge over the James River between the City of Lynchburg and Amherst County.

Benefits

This maintenance work will assist with the preservation of the existing structure.

Impact on Traffic

Route 29 north- and southbound will be narrowed to one lane intermittently in each direction for approximately four months.

August 11, 2008 Update

The contractor will be switching traffic from the passing lane to the travel lane on Route 29 Business southbound lane in the next couple of weeks.  Message boards will be set up several days in advance of the change to warn motorists of the new traffic pattern.
