Background/History
- Rte. 671 is a Rural Major Collector in Southampton County serving residents along the route as well as cities of Franklin, Newsoms and Boykins.
- Currently, bridge 6213 is 302' long and 26' wide with a 39.3 sufficiency rating.
- A 2008 traffic count shows 4060 vehicles a day with 12% truck traffic at these locations.
Project Purpose
The purpose of this project is to replace the two bridges over the Nottoway River as well as the overflow and rebuild the approach roadways as necessary for the bridge work. Both structures are classified as functionally obsolete and bridge 6213 is classified as structurally deficient.
Cosntruction
Bridges will be constructed using a phased construction scheme. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times utilizing temporary traffic signals. The project is scheduled for advertisement in July 2019 and will take approximately 2 years to complete.
