About the project
There are two concurrent projects designed to improve bicyclist safety along the project corridor by addressing deficiencies in lane and shoulder width and horizontal and vertical alignment. The project will begin at East Main Street (Route 789) and end on Route 13 Business and for a length of approximately 2.87 miles on Pennsylvania Avenue (Route 609) in the town of Onley.
Route 609 is classified as a rural major collector. The existing typical section consists of two, 10-foot travel lanes with variable width shoulders. The proposed typical section consists of two, 11-foot travel lanes with six-foot shoulders, of which four feet will be paved and utilized as bike lanes. The typical section in the town of Onley will consist of two, 11-foot lanes and two, three-foot bike lanes with curb and gutter.
Right-of-way acquisition is scheduled to begin in summer 2012.
