About the Project
This project will replace the structurally-deficient Denbigh Boulevard Bridge over Interstate 64 and CSX Railway between Warwick Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue in Newport News with a new bridge that meets current geometric and design standards. Funding for the project is included in the FY2017-2022 Six-Year Improvement Plan.
Whitman, Requardt and Associates, LLP, was selected as the design consultant.
Design began in 2015, followed by right-of-way acquisition in 2016. The project is estimated to be advertised for construction by fall 2018, with a notice to proceed estimated for early 2019.
The estimated preliminary schedule for the project is as follows:
A design public hearing was held on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Denbigh High School, 259 Denbigh Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23608. The public comment period closed thirteen (13) days after this public hearing, on December 28, 2015.
