About the Project

This project will replace the structurally-deficient Denbigh Boulevard Bridge over Interstate 64 and CSX Railway between Warwick Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue in Newport News with a new bridge that meets current geometric and design standards. Funding for the project is included in the FY2017-2022 Six-Year Improvement Plan. 

Estimated Schedule

Design is scheduled to begin in 2015, followed by right-of-way acquisition in 2016 and construction in 2018.

Whitman, Requardt and Associates, LLP, has been selected as the design consultant. VDOT has issued a Notice to Proceed to the design consultant, with plans for a Design Public Hearing in December 2015, and right-of-way acquisition subsequently beginning in the fall of 2016.

Project Update

A design public hearing was held on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Denbigh High School, 259 Denbigh Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23608. The public comment period closed thirteen (13) days after this public hearing, on December 28, 2015.
