Project Details
The Virginia Department of Transportation is replacing the bridge on Route 600 (Frog Level Road) over Boot Swamp in Caroline County.
The current bridge is structurally deficient, with no shoulders and two 11 foot travel lanes.
The new bridge will have two 11 foot travel lanes and 8 foot shoulders. Guardrail will be added to the bridge approaches to enhance safety.
During construction, one travel lane will remain open for traffic. Traffic will alternate crossing the bridge in the open travel lane.
Construction will begin in spring 2013, and conclude in summer 2014.
The estimated project cost is $2 million.
According to a 2011 VDOT traffic count, the bridge carries an average of 548 vehicles a day.
