Project Overview
This project would build designated left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to improve safety operations at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County.
Project Details
Additional features of the proposed project:
- A raised concrete barrier is proposed along Route 1 to separate northbound and southbound traffic.
- Right turn lanes from Route 1 onto Route 606 would be lengthened to meet current standards.
- The addition of a northbound left turn lane into the shopping center to the west will be considered.
- A new traffic signal would be added at the intersection.
Project Schedule
A citizen information meeting on revisions to the project design has been scheduled for:
Thursday, April 19, 2012
5-7 p.m.
Riverview Elementary School
7001 North Roxbury Mill Road
Spotsylvania, VA 22551
• No formal presentation will be given at the meeting. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) officials will be available continuously from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 to share updated project plans, maps, and documents, and to address questions.
• The project would build designated left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to improve safety operations at the intersection. Since a design public hearing on the project was held in January, project officials have adjusted the design to to shift the alignment to the west, north of Route 606, in order to balance the right of way impacts. Also, Roxbury Road has been relocated approximately 250 feet north on Route 1.
