What's Being Done
A project to replace the Route 23 bridges over North Fork Holston River in the Weber City area of Scott County is underway.
The bridges, one constructed in the 1940s and one in the 1960s when the route was widened to four lanes, have reached their life span and are ready for replacement. The bridges carry approximately 24,000 vehicles per day.
During construction, there will be one-12-foot-wide travel lane in each direction. For the first phase of construction, north and southbound traffic will use the northbound bridge while the southbound bridge is reconstructed.
Access to businesses, entrances and connecting roads within the project limits will be maintained during construction.
The speed limit inside the work zone will be lowered to 35 mph to enhance safety for motorists and highway workers.
