What's Being Done

Preliminary engineering is underway for two projects to improve safety along Route 224 in Scott County:

  •  The first project is improvements from the Tennessee state line to the bridge over Moccasin Creek, a distance of 3.43 miles.  The improvements include intersection improvements, including intersection warning devices at Route 704 and adding a turn lane onto Route 58 east toward Hiltons; adding one additional lane for .43-mile near the intersection of Route 58; trench widening for the outside shoulders; paving the outside lane shoulders; installing milled rumble strips into the asphalt shoulder; and upgrading guardrail and pavement markings.
  •  The second project is a curve improvement project near the bridge over Holston River.  Preliminary engineering work is underway and the project is fully funded through construction.
