TRAFFIC ALERT FOR JUNE 4-8, 2018
Highway Work Zones in the Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley:  Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. June 3-7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Mile marker 29 to 36, eastbound – Alternating lane closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Weekdays through June 29 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger traffic control for mowing and pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.


SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Morris Hill Road) – Road closed through June 7 for bridge work over Rucker Hollow Stream and Dry Branch tributary. Residents will have access to properties on either side of the bridges. Through traffic will follow posted detours.

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Occasional flagging operations as needed near Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) and I-64 for intersection improvements. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 174 to 206, northbound and southbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. June 3-7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(NEW) Exit 175, southbound – Shoulder closures along on- and off-ramps for shoulder repairs, June 6-8 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 189 to 190, northbound – Overnight right lane closure for excavation work from 8 p.m. June 5 to 7 a.m. June 6. Inclement weather will delay the work to June 6-7.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound Overnight left lane closures for mowing, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June 10. Daytime right shoulder closures for mowing/trimming and litter pickup, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. through June 10.

(NEW) Mile marker 217 to 219, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installation, June 4-15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 227 to 237, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for pavement marker installation, June 5-7 from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Flagger controlled lane closures just east of I-81 for bridge work over Lewis Creek. June 4-8 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 42 (Little Calfpasture Highway) – Single lane closures for guardrail work between Route 703 (Hewitt Road) and Route 685 (Lehigh Road). June 4-18 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through traffic through summer 2018 between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes. Residents will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 840 (Old Churchville Road) – Road closed through June 5 between east and west intersections of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) for box culvert installation. Follow posted detours.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Short duration closure for utility-line crossing near intersection with Route 276 (Cross Keys Road), June 5 from 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

SECONDARY ROADS 

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Temporary signals control traffic across bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Page county line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

Route 636 (Cub Run Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 602 (Point Road) to dead end. Through June 6 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 672 (Pineville Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement operations from Route 253 (Port Republic Road) to Route 655 (Lawyer Road). Weekdays June 1-7 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 715 (Kettle View Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 636 (Runkles Gap Road) to dead end. Through June 6 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion December 2018.

Route 988 (Scholars Road) – Temporary causeway with 24/7 “Stop & Proceed” traffic pattern during Pleasant Run bridge replacement, through July 6. Work zone between Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) and Route 989 (Valley Branch Road).

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Overnight flagger traffic control for shoulder widening and guardrail replacement between Luray town limits and Warren County line. Sunday-Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June 30.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Flaggers or temporary signals control traffic on both sides of the bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Rockingham County line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Route 11 – Single lane traffic for Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County. Northbound traffic use right lane of new Cedar Creek bridge. Southbound traffic uses right lane of the existing southbound bridge. Traffic pattern in place through mid-June. Speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Southbound traffic will use the right lane of the existing southbound bridge. Through mid-June.  Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.
