I-81 SOUTHBOUND CLOSED NEAR AUGUSTA-ROCKINGHAM COUNTY LINE
STAUNTON – (1:55 p.m.) Both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 are blocked by a multi-vehicle crash at mile marker 237 near the Augusta-Rockingham county line. The crash was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m., and backups have reached at least eight miles. Incident responders are on scene and working to reopen the interstate.
Southbound I-81 traffic is being detoured onto Route 11 (Lee Highway). Motorists will take I-81 exit 240 (Mount Crawford/Bridgewater), follow Route 257 (Friedens Church Road) west, Route 11 south and Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) east to rejoin the interstate at exit 235.
