STAUNTON – (4:15 a.m.) An overturned tractor trailer has blocked both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 near mile marker 232 in Augusta County. The crash took place about 2:15 Monday morning, and crews hope to reopen the interstate within another three hours.

I-81 southbound traffic is being detoured onto Route 11 at exit 235 (Weyers Cave/Grottoes). Drivers will follow Route 11 south for about seven miles, and then Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) east for about a half-mile to return to I-81 at exit 227 (Verona).

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
