ONE LANE OPEN ON SOUTHBOUND I-81 IN AUGUSTA COUNTY
STAUNTON – (2:35 p.m.) The left lane of southbound Interstate 81 has reopened in Augusta County following a tractor trailer fire at mile marker 212 in the Greenville area. The southbound detour has been lifted, but traffic is currently backed up about five miles.
The right lane of southbound I-81 is expected to remain closed for several more hours. The Virginia Department of Transportation will repair pavement damaged by the vehicle fire, and crews plan to remove the tractor trailer Friday night.
The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
