I-81 PAVING WORK MAY EXTEND INTO TUESDAY MORNING COMMUTE IN AUGUSTA COUNTY
STAUNTON – The Virginia Department of Transportation is completing paving work on Interstate 81 in Augusta County from mile marker 212 to 214 northbound and southbound including exit 213. This work begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, December 11 and may extend beyond 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12. The I-81 exit 213 southbound on-ramp may be closed during the morning hours as paving progresses. Expect delays.
Earlier plans were to pave the nights of December 11 and again December 12. Due to sub-freezing temperatures forecasted for the night of December 12 this schedule has changed.
The paving project includes work on both the southbound and northbound on-ramps from Route 11 at exit 213. On December 11 work will begin on the northbound side of I-81 and once complete southbound work will be done. Motorists should follow posted detours. Travelers should expect alternating lane closures.
Use extreme caution in this congested area.
All work is weather permitting.
