TRACTOR TRAILER CRASH CLOSES SOUTHBOUND I-81 IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

STAUNTON – (12:50 a.m.) An overturned tractor trailer has blocked both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County. The crash took place about midnight Tuesday night near mile marker 179. There is no estimate on when the southbound lanes will reopen. Traffic is currently backed up about two miles.

A detour is being established for southbound I-81 traffic. Motorists will be directed to take exit 180A (Natural Bridge/Glasgow) and follow Route 11 south to rejoin the interstate at exit 175.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
