STAUNTON – (6:35 a.m.) Both northbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed in Harrisonburg due to an overturned tractor trailer just south of exit 245 (Port Republic Road). The trailer was reported to be empty at the time of the crash, which took place about 5:30 this morning. There is no estimate on when the northbound lanes will reopen.

All northbound I-81 traffic is detoured at exit 243 (Harrisonburg/Pleasant Valley). Drivers will follow Route 11 north and return to the interstate at exit 245. There is currently a 2-mile backup on the interstate, and motorists can expect related delays on Route 11 in the Harrisonburg area.
