CRASH CLOSES SOUTHBOUND I-81 IN SHENANDOAH COUNTY
STAUNTON – (5:05 p.m.) A vehicle crash has closed southbound Interstate 81 near mile marker 286 in Shenandoah County. The accident took place shortly before 4 p.m. today, and there is no estimate on when the southbound lanes will reopen. Traffic is currently backed up about eight miles.
A detour has been set up for southbound I-81. Drivers will be directed to use exit 291 (Toms Brook) and follow Route 11 south to Woodstock, where they will rejoin the interstate at exit 283.
The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
