TRAFFIC ALERT FOR NOVEMBER 2 to 6, 2015
Highway Work Zones in the Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY  

  

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 (WV state line) to 2, eastbound – Alternating lane closures including exit 1 as needed for milling and paving operations. Variable days and times during the week. Estimated completion December 1.

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching. Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Lane closures as needed for mowing, litter pickup and weed-eating, Sunday through Saturday 24/7. 

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Pipe replacement, pothole repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Grading with a mobile operation.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching. Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching. Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Be alert for crews trimming trees, removing debris, clearing sign areas and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 60 (West 29th Street, Buena Vista) – Single lane closure for sidewalk replacement and drainage work from Alleghany Avenue to Beech Avenue.  November 9 to14, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 501 (Magnolia Avenue, Buena Vista) – Intermittent flagging, right shoulder closed and pedestrian detour for sidewalk replacement project from Dickenson Avenue to 10th Street.  November 9 to14, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

(NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
(NEW) Various roads
– Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as need for pothole patching.  Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets.  Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

(UPDATE) Mile marker 90 to 92, eastbound and westbound – Overnight alternating lane closures as well as the closure of westbound I-64 off-ramp to Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) for milling and paving work.  November 3 to 5, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.  Drivers can access Route 285 by continuing west to I-81 northbound, taking exit 222 and following Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) east back to Route 285.  Estimated project completion 7 a.m. November 6.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Westbound right lane closure Tuesday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. near mile marker 104 (Albemarle County) for tree trimming in preparation of variable message board placement.  Estimated project completion December 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching. Wednesday and Thursday, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning paved ditches, drop inlets and slopes. Object marker replacement guardrails between mile makers 205 and 221.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps.  Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion December 2015. 

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  for installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion December 2015. 

(UPDATE) Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) – Right lane and shoulder closures at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road) through November 18 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (Summerdean Road near Middlebrook) – Daytime flagger controlled traffic as needed for bridge maintenance over Middle River, October 26 through November 5. Work zone is 0.59 mile south of Route 603 to 0.93 mile of Route 677.

(UPDATE) Route 608 (Cold Springs Road, Greenville) – 24/7 “stop and proceed” single-lane traffic pattern for bridge widening project over Deep Pond Run.  Work zone 0.95 mile south of Route 658 (Avis Road) to 0.70 mile north of Route 662 (Greenville School Road).  Estimated completion 5 p.m. on November 5.

Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

(NEW) Route 624 (Lyndhurst Road) – Road closed November 2, 7:15 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. for bridge work.  Bridge location is 1.78 mile south of Route 664 (Lyndhurst Road) to 0.16 mile north from Route 971 (Lipscomb Road). Follow posted detours.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on ramps.  Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion December 2015.   

Route 635 (Augusta Farms Road/Ramsey Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  Estimated completion November 6.

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) to Route 687 (Massanetta Springs Road) – Single lane closure westbound for water line installation.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 pm.  Estimated completion December 31.

(NEW) Route 608 (Mauzy Athlone Road) – Flagger controlled short/intermittent lane closures November 4 between Route 717 (Indian Trail Road) and Route 807 (Koontz Corner Road) for pipe installation.

Mile marker 287, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures at bridge over Route 642. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for bridge work. Estimated completion November 19.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 293 to 289, southbound, including ramps at exit 291  – Overnight lane closures for milling, paving and guardrail work at various locations.  Sunday to Thursday, 8p.m. to 7 a.m. the following mornings.  Estimated completion November 16.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 308  to 312, northbound and southbound – Reduced speed limit of 60 miles per hour in effect throughout the work zone until completion of the exit 310 construction project, estimated for May 2018.  Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp. Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone.  

(NEW) Mile marker 321 to 317, southbound – Lane closures as needed for crack sealing operations.  November 2 to 5, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following mornings.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 7 (Berryville Pike), eastbound and westboundApproximately 30-minute road closure at Eckard Circle between Regency Lake Drive and Millbrook drive on Tuesday, November 3 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for utility work above the road.  Traffic at two signals will be controlled by law enforcement.

Route 37, northboundRight shoulder closure of Route 522 off-ramp during construction of additional turn lane. Estimated completion November 15.

Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion January 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction vehicles and activities at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.  

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

CLARKE COUNTY

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 7 Business, eastbound (Main Street, town of Berryville)Road closed 7 a.m. November 2 until 5 p.m. November 9 between Buckmarsh Street (Route 340) and Church Street for pipe replacement and follow-up paving.  Detour south on Buckmarsh Street, east on Crow Street and north on Church Street to the end of the detour.

WARREN COUNTY 

 

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 10, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures for washing and painting of bridges over Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road).  Estimated completion November 2.

 

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 299, northbound at Warren county line – Overnight lane closures as needed for bridge deck work over Cedar Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion November 6.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

(NEW) Route 79 (Apple Mountain Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations.  6 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.  Estimated completion November 10.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17th Street. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for washing and painting of I-66 bridges, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion November 2.

Various roads – Shoulder work. 

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
