TRACTOR TRAILER FIRE IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY BACKS UP I-81 NORTHBOUND

STAUNTON – (3:15 p.m.) Northbound traffic on Interstate 81 is limited to a single lane due to cleanup operations from a tractor trailer fire near mile marker 176 in Rockbridge County. Traffic is backed up about 14 miles at this time.

 

The fire was reported about 12:20 this afternoon, and involved a tractor trailer hauling rice. There is no indication of hazardous materials at this location. Incident responders are working to remove the truck and its contents, but there is no estimate yet on when all lanes of the interstate will open to traffic.

 

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
