TRACTOR TRAILER CRASH CLOSES SOUTHBOUND I-81 IN HARRISONBURG
STAUNTON – (5:30 a.m.) Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane of Interstate 81 are closed due to a tractor trailer crash near mile marker 245 in the city of Harrisonburg. The accident took place shortly after 4 a.m. when the truck hit the overpass at exit 245 (Port Republic Road) and overturned. The Virginia Department of Transportation will inspect the bridge for any possible damage. There is no estimate for reopening southbound I-81.
A brief detour for southbound traffic has been established. All drivers will take the off-ramp at exit 245, cross over Port Republic Road and use the on-ramp to rejoin I-81 southbound.
Motorists should expect significant delays in this area as traffic levels increase for the morning commute.
