PART OF ROUTE 708 IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY CLOSING SEPTEMBER 21
Closure to Remain Until Bridge Replacement

STAUNTON – The Virginia Department of Transportation will close a portion of Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) in Rockbridge County on Monday, September 21. The location is between Route 608 (Shafer Lane/Gilmore’s Mill Road) and Route 773 (Lloyd Tolley Road) in the Natural Bridge area. Motorists can access Route 708 by using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway).

A recent inspection of the bridge over Cedar Creek noted deterioration due to age and over-weight truck traffic. The bridge is already scheduled for replacement, with construction expected to start in early 2016.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
