I-81 OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES JUNE 29 – JULY 2 FOR EXIT 310 PROJECT IN FREDERICK COUNTY

STAUNTONOvernight lane closures are scheduled to take place this week on Interstate 81 northbound and southbound in Frederick County between mile marker 309 and 311 near Winchester. These closures are for pavement marking related to the exit 310 interchange modification project, and are scheduled as follows:

Monday, June 29:  I-81 northbound right lane closure between mile marker 309 and 310.1 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Tuesday, June 30:  I-81 southbound left lane closure between mile marker 311 and 309.3 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Wednesday, July 1:  I-81 southbound right lane closure between mile marker 311 and 309.3 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

All work is weather permitting.

The exit 310 project will reconstruct the interchange ramps on I-81 at the southern end of Route 37. The new interchange will feature a “spread diamond” configuration” which will widen and spread the ramps outward from their current intersections with Route 37. The project will extend existing turn lanes and add dual right- and left-turn lanes to improve traffic flow on the ramps and on Route 37 and Route 11.

The expanded configuration will relocate and connect Route 642 (Tasker Road) and Route 847 (Hillandale Lane) with a segment of Route 37 to be built east of I-81. West of the interstate, this project will modify the ramps at the Route 37 interchange with Route 11.

General Excavation Inc. (GEI) of Warrenton, Va. was awarded a construction contract valued at nearly $25 million with completion scheduled for May 2018. For more information, go to http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/staunton/i-81_exit_310.asp.
