TRAFFIC ALERT FOR NOVEMBER 10 TO NOVEMBER 14, 2014
Highway Work Zones in the Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching, Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Also be alert for debris removal and clearing sign areas, cleaning bridge ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching, Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Also be alert for debris removal and cleaning bridge paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound.  Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge for about a year while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching, Tuesday and Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Also be alert for debris removal, repairing mile marker signs and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 185 to 190 including Ramps 188A and 188B, northbound – Alternating lane closures for paving. Sunday, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Monday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated project completion December 2014.

Mile marker 193 to 190, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (north Lee Highway) – Alternating single lane and shoulder closures over Maury River for bridge inspection.  November 11, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 130 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Exit 91 (Fishersville) – November 12 to 13 overnight detours via on- and off-ramps at exit 91 for demolition of old Route 285 bridge over the interstate.  9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.  Demolition expected to continue to December 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107 – Shoulder closures along the median, eastbound and westbound, Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day for installation of temporary fence and underground conduit system in median. Estimated completion July 6, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for pothole patching, Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker signs, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 207 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81.  Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 14, 2014.

Route 250 – Traffic restricted to single 12-foot wide lane during Ramsey’s Draft bridge replacement.  Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by temporary signal. Work zone 1.04 miles west of Route 716 to 1.12 miles west of Route 716.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 250/358 Intersection – Eastbound shoulder closure for gas line installation across Route 250. November 10 to 14.

Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Bridge work over I-81 at mile marker 235.2.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 12, 2014.

(NEW) Route 285 – Pavement markings and temporary traffic signals beginning 9 p.m. November 11 from Route 625 (Midway Lane) to about 0.2 mile south of Route 935 (Expo Road) in preparation of a lane shift. Drivers will begin using new lanes and signals on Route 285, including the new interstate bridge, by the early morning hours of November 12.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion Dec. 31, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 340/635 Intersection – Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation on northbound shoulder between Route 649 and Route 635.  November 10 to 14.

(NEW) Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) – Nighttime alternating lane closures from Route 778 to Route 865 for milling, paving and pavement marking, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 20, 2014.

Route 612 – Alternating lane closures as needed for milling, paving and pavement marking from Route 1926 (Kendrick Avenue) to Route 788. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Estimated completion Dec. 20, 2014.

Route 620 (Spotswood Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81 at mile marker 207.  Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov. 14, 2014.

(NEW) Route 635 (Barterbrook Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 12, 2014.

(NEW) Route 636 – Pavement markings and temporary traffic signals beginning 9 p.m. November 10 in preparation of a lane shift just west of Route 285. Traffic will begin using the new lanes and signals early morning November 11.

Route 648 (Christians Creek Road) – Alternating lane closures with flaggers for intersection improvements at Route 648/Route 608 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 742 (Toll Gate Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 12, 2014.

Route 750 (Keezletown Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 12, 2014.

Route 775 (Buttermilk Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 12, 2014.

Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

November 11 to 14 and November 17 to 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.  Detours: Southbound traffic will use Route 698 to Route 263 west (Orkney Grade) to Route 614 south (South Middle Road) to Route 764 east (Walker Road) back to Route 698.  Northbound traffic will use Route 698 to Route 764 west (Walker Road) to Route 614 north (South Middle Road) to Route 263 east (Orkney Grade) back to Route 698. 

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stony Creek. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 2015.

Route 50 – Daytime median shoulder closures for new crossover construction between Route 781 (Prince Frederick Drive) and Route 781 (Sulphur Springs Road. Estimated completion Dec. 5, 2014.

Route 522 – Northbound shoulder closures for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 679 and the West Virginia Line.  Estimated completion is Nov. 21, 2014.

(NEW) Route 625 (Germany Road) – Closed to through traffic to Route 649 (Springdale Road)  on November 8, 8 to 11:30 a.m. for Battlefield Half Marathon.  Detour will be in place.

(NEW) Route 628 (Middle Road) – Closed to through traffic from Westview Lane south to Route 625 (Germany Road) on November 8, 8 to 11:30 a.m. for Battlefield Half Marathon.  Detour will be in place.

(NEW) Route 649 (Springdale  Road) – Closed to through traffic to Route 651 (Shady Elm Road) on November 8, 8 to 11:30 a.m. for Battlefield Half Marathon.  Detour will be in place.

(NEW) Route 651 (Shady Elm Road) – Closed to through traffic to Route 652 (Apple Valley Road) on November 8, 8 to 11:30 a.m. for Battlefield Half Marathon.  Detour will be in place.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for paving operations 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Front Royal Town limits to Passage Creek Bridge.  Estimated completion Nov. 14, 2014.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – New traffic pattern with lane shifts on north and south ends of the bridge replacement project over Gooney Creek. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Daily lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. Additional lane shift and closure of center turn lane from the south end of the bridge to just past 17th Street and closure of 18th Street to through traffic. Through traffic will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Lane shifts on Route 55 just west of Route 340/522. These changes will be in effect through summer 2015.  Estimated bridge completion December 2017.

(NEW) Various roads – Shoulder repair.  Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for reconstruction of Route 603 from Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) to 0.5 miles north. Estimated completion December 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Grading and shoulder repair.  Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
