ROUTE 733 BRIDGE IN AUGUSTA COUNTY TO CLOSE
STAUNTON – The Virginia Department of Transportation has closed part of Route 733 (Moffett Branch Road) in Augusta County, after an inspection this week revealed additional deterioration to the bridge over Elk Run. The location is about 0.6-mile north of Route 734 (Hupman Road) near Churchville.
The single-lane truss bridge was built in 1920 and has reached the end of its service life. A temporary structure replacement is underway and Route 733 is expected to reopen by April 15, 2014. VDOT is scheduled to construct a permanent replacement beginning in 2015.
Until then, motorists using Route 733 will be detoured as follows: Southbound traffic will detour west onto Route 835 (Dudley Farm Road), south on Route 736 (Union Church Road) and east on Route 734 to Route 733. Northbound drivers will detour west on Route 734, north on Route 736 and east on Route 835 to Route 733.
The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
