RIBBON-CUTTING FOR ROUTE 613 BRIDGE IN WARREN COUNTY
Road Briefly Closed to Through Traffic During Oct. 23 Event
STAUNTON – The Virginia Department of Transportation will host a ribbon-cutting Thursday, October 23, for the Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) bridge over the South Fork of the Shenandoah River in Warren County. This event is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on the newly constructed bridge, which is about one mile north of the intersection with Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) at Bentonville.
Route 613 will be closed to through traffic from 9 a.m. to noon on the day of the ribbon-cutting. The closure extends from Route 619 (Mountain Road/Rivermont Drive) to Route 340, and through traffic will be detoured onto those roads. Variable message boards will alert drivers to the change.
Scheduled to appear at the event are: Dixon Whitworth, Staunton District representative on the Commonwealth Transportation Board; Chairman Daniel J. Murray, Jr., Warren County Board of Supervisors; Vice-chair Linda Glavis, Warren County Board of Supervisors; Douglas P. Stanley, Warren County Administrator; and Clifton M. Balderson, VDOT Edinburg Residency Administrator. Their brief remarks will be followed by a ribbon-cutting on the new bridge.
The Route 613 project improves the safety of vehicular traffic, pedestrians and bicyclists by replacing a substandard low-water river crossing and a second narrow bridge over a nearby abandoned channel. This location borders the George Washington National Forest and receives significant recreational traffic due to an adjacent outfitter, public boat launch and fishing areas.
A $4,412,447 construction contract was awarded to Kanawha Stone Company Inc. of Nitro, West Virginia, in April 2013. This project is financed by the federal Forest Highway Fund. Additional information about the project is found on the VDOT website at the following link:
