The Virginia Department of Transportation has finished the reconstruction of a portion of Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road) in Warren County. The newly completed project improves safety and allows the roadway to handle the high volume of traffic it currently carries.

Route 603 serves several subdivisions, a campground and through traffic between Route 643 and Route 647. It was previously an unpaved road about 15 feet wide with severe erosion problems and the inability to accommodate two-way traffic.

This reconstruction and paving project widened Route 603 to two 10-foot lanes with three- to five-foot shoulders. The project runs from Route 647 to 0.34 mile north of the intersection.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded a $938,045 contract to Kickin’ Asphalt of Strasburg, Va. Construction began in May 2014 and was completed on December 12, 2014.
