TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF JANUARY 28 to FEBRUARY 1, 2013
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and clean ditches, shoulder and median. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads 

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, brush cutting and pothole patching, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 617 – Road closed for widening and safety improvements. Estimated completion is May 2013.   

* Route 633 – Replacement of Cowpasture River bridge and approaches from 1.46 miles south of Route 634 to 1.14 miles south of Route 634. Be alert for flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 17, 2013.

* Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Bridge over Jackson River closed until further notice for repairs. This location is 0.1-mile west from Route 687 (Jackson River Road) to 0.6-mile east from Route 666 (Morris Hill Road). Motorists can use the following routes for a detour:  Route 687 to Route 641 (Indian Draft Road) to Route 666.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, brush cutting, pothole patching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – Shoulder and pothole repairs. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads - Brush cutting and pothole patching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Various Roads- Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205.5, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, northbound – Truck climbing lane project. There are no lane closures on the I-81 truck climbing lane project this week.   

 

Primary Roads

*(NEW) Various roads – Trash pick-up. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Tuesday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 11 – Fiber optic cable work continues north toward Fairfield and between Maury River and I-64.  Estimated completion end of April.

* Route 608, south end of Forge Road – fiber optic cable work continues into Natural Bridge and Glasgow.

* Route 763 (Lincoln Road) at Route 11. Utility project. Install water transmission line on northwest shoulder of Route 763 for 0.60 mile to the intersection of Route 11. Installation will continue on the east shoulder of Route 11 northbound for 1.23 miles. Crossovers may be closed as work progresses. Estimated completion is first part of February 2013. 

* (UPDATE) Route 917 (Oakland Circle) – Road closed .5 mile south of Route 606 (Raphine Road) for pipe replacement on Jan. 30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible. Motorists may use the following detour: Route 606 (Raphine Road) to Route 613 (Ridge Road) to Route 917 (Oakland Circle.) Truck traffic is not recommended on this detour. 

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Grading, shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, pipe replacement and brush cutting. Flagger traffic control as needed, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 250 – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting at various locations. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Pothole repairs. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

Interstate 64

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 195 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville), northbound and southbound – Sewer construction. Shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Estimated completion is November 30, 2013.

* Routes 340 at Route 654 in Stuart Draft – Traffic Signal Replacement. Estimated completion March 2013.

* Route 340 – Waynesboro, Delphine Avenue Project. Installation of sanitary line and waterline at various locations on Delphine Ave., with retaining wall placement along Delphine Ave. to 4th Street. Be alert for lane closures and flagger traffic control. Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Various roads - Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81 

* (NEW) Mile marker 240 to 251, northbound and southbound – Debris removal. Jan. 28, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 257 to 237, southbound – Sign maintenance. Jan. 28, Jan. 30, and Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  

Primary Roads

* Route 340/33 in Elkton – Adding pedestrian signal at the existing crosswalk at the intersection of Route 340 and Route 33. Estimated completion end of January.

*Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Secondary Roads 

* Route 609 (Naked Creek Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 (Fleeburg Road, Page County) and Route 609. Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On May 22, the traffic pattern will shift from the existing bridge on Route 603 to a temporary bridge during construction of the permanent structure. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 646 (Bloomer Springs Road) is closed at Route 644 (Resort Drive) for an installation of a pipe. Work is scheduled to start on Jan. 14. 

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* Route 1421 (Springbrook Road, Town of Broadway) – Road closed over Linville Creek for bridge construction Jan. 21 to March 18, and signal upgrade at Route 42. The closure will be between South Main Street (Route 42) and Early Drive (Route 1415). Watch for detour signage. Estimated completion is April 30, 2013.

* Various roads – Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.40 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Motorists should use extreme caution and obey posted speed limit. Estimated completion is fall 2013. The bridges are still under construction but the portion of Route 340 from 3.27 miles to 2.95 miles south of the Page and Warren County line will open with new travel lanes after noon on Monday, Nov. 26. Motorists should use extra caution in this area as drives become familiar with this new traffic pattern.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 603 (Fleeburg Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 and Route 609 (Naked Creek Road). Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 257 to 273, northbound and southbound – Sign maintenance. Jan. 28, Jan. 29 and Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. 

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 273 to 302, northbound and southbound – Trash and debris removal  from off- ramps. Jan. 28, Jan. 30, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 283 to 291, northbound – Cut trees off fence line, Jan. 28, Jan. 29 and Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 285, northbound – Fence repair, Jan. 28, Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Routes 11/55/1203 in Strasburg. Traffic signal replacement. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 11 at Route 1974 (Holiday Street) in Strasburg. Traffic signal replacement. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* (UPDATE) Various roads - Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Tuesday to Friday.

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 302 to 315, northbound and southbound – Debris pickup on- and off-ramps and clean paved ditches, medians. Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 305, southbound right shoulder closure for new sign installation. Jan. 28 to Feb.1, 7:00 a.m. to 4: p.m.
