NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC MOVING ON SHOULDER ALONG I-81 AT HARRISONBURG
Significant Delays From Tractor Trailer Accident

STAUNTON (9:10 a.m.) – The northbound shoulder on Interstate 81 at Harrisonburg is now open to traffic, following an accident and fire at mile marker 245.

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Staunton Traffic Operations Center reported the accident involving a tractor trailer and a sport-utility vehicle shortly before 7 a.m. It occurred on I-81 northbound just south of exit 245 (Port Republic Road).

Motorists on I-81 northbound are using the right shoulder. The southbound right lane is open. Traffic on both sides of the interstate is backed up three to four miles.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
