CRASH INTO POWER POLE CLOSES PORTION OF ROUTE 340 IN ROCKINGHAM COUNTY
STAUNTON – (8 a.m.) An early morning crash with a vehicle hitting a power pole has caused the closure of Route 340 in Rockingham County. Due to the voltage in the power line it will be later today before the road can be reopened.
The Virginia Department of Transportation Traffic Operations Center did not have an estimated reopening time.
The crash is located near Route 754 (South Branch Road).
A detour is in place:
• Northbound Route 340 traffic will turn left onto Route 649 (Island Ford Road) to Route 33 eastbound. Travelers will turn right onto Route 33 and then rejoin Route 340 at Route 33 in the Elkton area.
• Southbound Route 340 traffic will get on Route 33 near Elkton and travel west on Route 33 and turn left onto Route 649 and then turn right onto Route 340.
The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
