ROUTE 710 AT I-81 TO HAVE LANE CLOSURES IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY
STAUNTON – There will be lane closures on Route 710 between the Interstate 81 northbound and southbound ramps on March 6 and March 7 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
Crews will be setting steel girders for the new bridge in this location as part of the I-81 truck climbing lane project. For most of the day there will be single lane closures.
However when the beams are being set flaggers will temporarily close both lanes on Route 710. These total lane closures will not occur between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to allow school bus traffic to use the bridge.
The I-81 truck climbing lane project valued at $74.2 million was awarded by Commonwealth Transportation Board on Feb. 5, 2009 to W. C. English Inc. of Lynchburg. Completion is scheduled for fall 2012. The work zone is along the northbound lanes from mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, which is just north of Lexington.
