ALL LANES REOPENING ON I-81 AT MILE MARKER 279

STAUNTON – (5:45 p.m.) All lanes are now reopening on Interstate 81 southbound at mile marker 279. An accident at this location earlier closed all southbound lanes.  This location is at exit 279 at Route 185 in Edinburg area of Shenandoah County.

A tractor trailer carrying cardboard crashed into the bridge over Route 185 at the interchange and caught fire.  The bridge was inspected by Virginia Department of Transportation engineers and is safe for travel.  Crews have completed work to repair the guardrail along the right lane.
