TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF APRIL 18-22, 2011
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
Interstate 64
* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Pothole repairs, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mobile lane closures.
* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder repairs. Right lane closed, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
* Mile marker 18 to 24.5, westbound and eastbound – Median barrier construction installation project. Eastbound left lane closed. Westbound lane shift from mile marker 23 to 21.5 will be removed and all traffic will travel in right lane. A temporary concrete barrier has been placed in the median at mile marker 19. This is between exit 16 at Route 60/220 at the Mallow Mall area and exit 21 at Route 696 in Low Moor and Selma.

Primary Roads
* Route F-205 (Irvine Farm Road) – Flagging operations for I-64 median barrier project work.
* Route 220 – Pipe cleaning in the Town of Iron Gate. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* Route 311 – Tree trimming from Route 159 to West Virginia state line. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) – Box culvert replacement at Tygers Creek. Work will affect southbound lane from 3.39 miles north of Route 159 to 0.06 mile south of Route 602 adjacent to the CSXT Railroad. One way traffic is being diverted to the northbound lane tunnel. Signs, channelizing devices and temporary traffic signals will direct traffic through the work zone. Work is weather permitting. Motorists should use extreme caution while traveling through the work zone.
* Various roads – Pothole repairs, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mobile lane closures.

Secondary Roads
* Route 616 (Rich Patch Road) – Box culvert replacement at Karnes Creek. Paving will begin the week of April 18. The 10-foot roadway width restriction has been lifted. Work zone will be active on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with signs and flaggers as needed. Motorists should use extreme caution in this area and watch for construction vehicles.
* Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) – Flagging operations for I-64 median barrier project work.
* (NEW) Various roads – Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads – Pothole repairs, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mobile lane closures.
* Various roads – Grading, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

BATH COUNTY
Primary Roads
* Various roads – Pothole repairs, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mobile operation.

Secondary Roads
* (NEW) Route 625 (River Road) – Road closed to thru traffic 24 hours-a-day at 0.50 mile south of the intersection of Route 624 (West Minister Road) due to a fill embankment section failure. No estimate for reopening the road is available. Signs will be posted. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
* Route 676 (Gatewood Drive) – Bridge replacement off Route 39. Road closed 24 hours-a-day.
* Various roads – Brush cutting, sweeping and patching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY
Interstate 64
* Mile marker 41 to 56, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Interstate 81
* Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
* (UPDATE) Blasting will occur on April 19, 20 and 21 at 12 p.m. The blasting locations will be on I-81 between mile-markers 195 to 196. Signs are posted in this area. Both northbound and southbound lanes will have a rolling mobile lane closure. Northbound right lane closures will occur between mile markers 200.4 to 200.9 for restriping and barrier work at the Route 710 Bridge, April 19, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Northbound right lane closures will occur between mile markers 196.5 to 196.7 for barrier work, April 20, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Primary Roads
* Route 39 – Tree trimming from Route 11 to Route 252. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Route 60 – Tree trimming from Buena Vista City limits to Amherst County line. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Route 130 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Route 501 – Tree trimming from Route 130 to Amherst County line. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

Secondary Roads
* Route 611 (South Buffalo Road) – Bridge superstructure replacement on bridge over Buffalo Creek at 0.20 miles south of Route 612 (Blue Grass Trail). Road will be restricted to one 10-foot lane, 24 hours-a-day. Traffic controlled with stop and proceed layout. Signs posted. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes. Estimated completion is May 31.
* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads – Pothole repair, grading, brush cutting, spot patching, litter pick-up and shoulder repairs. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

HIGHLAND COUNTY
Primary Roads
* Route 84 – Tree trimming from West Virginia state line to 2.00 miles east of the West Virginia state line. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Route 250 – Pipe replacement, 1.60 miles east of Route 600 on Lantz Mountain. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* Route 250 – Shoulder repairs from McDowell to Augusta County line. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* Various roads – Pothole repairs, brush cutting and debris removal, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

Secondary Roads
* (UPDATE) Route 612 (Ervin Road) – Due to weather related issues the road improvement work at the Bullpasture River fording, 0.40 mile east of Route 678, will be delayed. This project will be rescheduled for late summer 2011.
* (NEW) Route 620 – Ditching and stone placement. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* Various roads – Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

AUGUSTA COUNTY
Interstate 64
* (NEW) Mile marker 91 – Boring activities in the vicinity of the I-64 and Route 285 Bridge, April 25 to 29, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Mile marker 96.3 – Guardrail repair. Left shoulder closed, Monday to Friday.

Interstate 81
* (UPDATE) Mile marker 213 to 217, southbound – I-81 In-Place Pavement Recycling Project - paving. From April 17 at 9 p.m. to April 21 at 7 a.m., the right lane will be closed 24-hours a day. The 24-hour closures originally scheduled for April 15 and April 16 are canceled due to forecasted weather conditions. Drivers of tractor trailer trucks should use the left lane and drivers of passenger vehicles are requested to use the primary detour: Traffic will leave I-81 southbound at exit 217 onto Route 654 (White Hill Road) westbound to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Motorists will turn left onto Route 11 southbound and re-enter I-81 at exit 213. There will be four more planned block closures between April 29 and June 9. A single closure block is scheduled to begin on Fridays at 9 p.m. and ends the following Thursday at 7 a.m. During the block closures I-81 southbound will be reduced to one lane in the work zone. Primary Roads
* Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Route 254 – Paving, line painting and placing shoulder stone from Route 262 to Waynesboro City Limits. Flagger traffic control with temporary lane closures. Work is 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
* Route 262 – Paving from Route 932 (Baker Lane) to Route 254. Flagger traffic control with temporary lane closures beginning April 25. Detours posted Work is 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday to Saturday.
* Route 340 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Secondary Roads
* Route 800 (Folly Mills Station Road/Springfield Lane) – This closure is scheduled to begin on April 17 at 9 p.m. Road closed at Route 654 for the I-81 In-Place Pavement Recycling Project. Only Route 11 intersections will be open for Route 800 traffic during the 24 hour-a-day I-81 lane closure period.
* Route 906 – Rural rustic project from Route 612 (Indian Ridge Road) to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Expect delays Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic will be controlled with flaggers during work hours. Estimated completion is May 31.
* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY
Interstate 81
* Mile marker 237.51 to 263.9, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and shoulder cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Primary Roads
* Stone Spring Road – Erickson Avenue/Stone Spring Road Connector Project from the Route 11 intersection to the Port Republic Road intersection. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is spring 2013.
* (NEW) Route 33, eastbound and westbound – Bridge inspection over Norfolk Southern railway. Right lane closed, Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
* Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Road widening project from 0.22 mile west of Route 704 (Boyers Road) to 0.02 mile east of Harrisonburg City limits. Possible lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion is January 27, 2012.
* Route 257, westbound (Town of Dayton) – Waterline installation from Route 1225 (Stonecroft Drive) to Route 737 (Limestone Lane). Intermittent lane closures, weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Secondary Roads
* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Road work at the intersection of Route 33 (Rawley Pike). Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Route 800 (Long Meadow Drive) – Columbia Gas work from Route 800 (Lone Pine Road) to Route 619 (Wampler Road). Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. intermittent lane and shoulder closures with flagger traffic control.
* Route 800 (American Legion Drive) – Columbia Gas work from Route 801 (Holsinger Road) to end of state maintenance. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. intermittent lane and shoulder closures with flagger traffic control.
* Route 801 (Holsinger Road) – Columbia Gas work from Route 800 (American Legion Drive) to Route 619 (Wampler Road). Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. intermittent lane and shoulder closures with flagger traffic control.
* Route 890 (Buckley Road) – Columbia Gas work from Route 619 (Piney Woods Road) to end of state maintenance. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. intermittent lane and shoulder closures with flagger traffic control.
* Various roads – Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

PAGE COUNTY
Primary Road
* Route 211, eastbound – Work on bridge over Pass Run, 4.60 miles west of the Rappahannock County line. Road reduced to single 11-foot lane, 24 hours-a-day beginning April 6. Estimated completion is mid June.
* (NEW) Route 340 – Maintenance work on bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, 0.01 mile north of the Route 650 to 0.10 mile south of Route 613. Single-lane closure, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 2.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.
* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY
Interstate 81
* Mile marker 263.92 to 300, northbound and southbound – Shoulder widening and pavement marking work. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion is late June.
* Mile marker 263.9 to 298, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, raking dirt piles at crossovers, brush cutting and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Primary Roads
* (NEW) Route 11 – Repair work on bridge over Mill Creek at Mount Jackson. Possible single-lane traffic and sidewalk closures, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
* Route 11 – Paving from north Edinburg Town limits to south Woodstock Town limits. Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 22.
* Route 11 – Paving in New Market, from Rockingham County line to Route 1020. Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 29.
* Route 11 – Curb and gutter repair in Town of Woodstock. Shoulder closures, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 22.
* Route 11 – Curb and gutter repair in Town of Toms Brook. Shoulder closures, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 22.
* Route 11 – Pavement patching in Toms Brook and Strasburg areas. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 22.
* (NEW) Route 42 – Repair work on bridge over I-81 at exit 283 (Woodstock). Possible single-lane traffic, weeknights, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
* (NEW) Various roads – Bridge sweeping in Toms Brook area.

Secondary Roads
* Route 609 (South Hollingsworth Road) – Swinging bridge is closed and removed until further notice. This location is 0.20 mile east of Route 670 (East Reservoir Road). Signs and barricades will be located, closing bridge to all pedestrian traffic.
* Route 604 – Pavement patching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 22.
* Route 623 – Pavement patching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 22.
* (NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting, scraping, bridge sweeping and asphalt patching.

FREDERICK COUNTY
Interstate 81
* Mile marker 300 to 324.21 northbound and southbound – Shoulder widening and pavement marking work. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion is late June.
* Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, raking dirt piles at crossovers and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Primary Roads
* (NEW) Route 50 – Pipe replacement in Winchester area.
* Route 522 – Intersection improvement at Route 642 (Tasker Road) including additional turn lane and signal installations. Lane closures and lane shifts during construction. Tasker Road traffic detoured to Rainville Road and Maranto Manor Road to Route 522. Route 522 northbound will be reduced to single-lane traffic. Signs posted. Work is Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is late May.
* (NEW) Various roads – Bridge sweeping in Stephens City area.

* (NEW) Route 7, eastbound – Paving from Frederick County lines to Route 632. Alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion is April 29.

* (NEW) Various roads – Scraping and patching.

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66
* Mile marker 0 to 13, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, raking dirt piles at crossovers and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Interstate 81
* Mile marker 298 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Primary Roads
* Route 340/522 – Alignment of Route 658 at intersection of Route 340/522. Construction will include additional turn lanes and traffic signals. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Blasting operations with flagger traffic control, weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion is summer 2012.
* Route 522 – Slide repair at Route 604 (Harmony Hollow Road). Lane closures, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. Shoulder closures 24 hours-a-day beginning March 14. Estimated completion is late April.

Secondary Roads
* Route 1026 (Happy Creek Road) Front Royal area – Road improvement project from Sixth Street and Bradford Drive to near Route 606 (Shenandoah Shores Road). A portion of Happy Creek Road will be restricted to single-lane traffic controlled by temporary signals to facilitate excavation work. The location of the signals will be just west of Mary Shady Lane to approximately 430-feet east of Meadow Lane. The signals will be located at both ends of the area and at the intersection of Mary Shady Lane and Happy Creek Road. The signals will control traffic 24-hours-a-day and are anticipated to remain until April 30.
* (NEW) Various roads – Ditching and grading.

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
