I-81 MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT EXTENDED BACKUPS IN HARRISONBURG AREA
STAUNTON – (12:30 p.m.) A mid-morning traffic crash on Interstate 81 near mile marker 242 in the Harrisonburg area has caused extended traffic back ups. Both southbound lanes are closed but traffic is getting by on the shoulder according to the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton Traffic Operation Center staff. The northbound left shoulder and left lane are also closed.
Emergency responders are at the crash site, which involves a truck carrying milk and involves another vehicle. There is no estimate at this time when the travel lanes will reopen.
The TOC reports traffic backups of up to five miles in both the northbound lanes and the southbound lanes. Motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through this area.
