EXPECT DELAYS ON I-81 NORTHBOUND NEAR STAUNTON

STAUNTON – Motorists should expect significant delays on Interstate 81 northbound near mile marker 225 in Augusta County.  This location is between exit 222 at Route 250 in the Staunton area and exit 225 at Route 262 near Staunton and Verona.

Earlier this afternoon there was a tractor trailer crash with a fire, located northbound just before exit 225 on I-81.  Emergency workers have put the fire out and are working to remove the truck from the road.  The right lane is open at this location but traffic is backed up eight miles.  The left-lane closure will continue into the evening hours to replace damaged guardrail.  There is a 40-foot drop in this area and the guardrail must be replaced before the lane can reopen.

Alternate routes are recommended for travelers in this area.  Updates can be found on the Virginia Department of Transportation 511 system.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511.  Traffic alerts and traveler information also are available at www.511Virginia.org.
