TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF JUNE 14-18, 2010

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64  

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 20 to 23, westbound – Right shoulder closure for pedestrian fence installation.

* (NEW) Mile marker 19 to 21.5 , westbound and eastbound – Left lane closure.  Median barrier construction installation project.

* Various locations – Herbicide spraying. Mobile right lane closure, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Various locations – Wildflower plot maintenance. Tuesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Primary Roads                                       

* (NEW) Route F-205 (Irvine Farm Road) – Flagging operations for I-64 median barrier project work.

* Route 220 – Bridge maintenance at the bridge over CSX Railway and Jackson River from 0.90 mile north of Route 1706 to 0.35 mile south of Route 60. Possible single-lane traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Route 220 – Spot paving, Iron Gate area, Monday 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Flagger traffic control.

* Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) – Bridge repairs at Tygers Creek located 2.3 miles west of Route 159 to 1.2 miles east of Route 602. Single-lane closures with 10-foot lane width restrictions controlled by stop and proceed. Intermittent delays up to 15-minutes. Completion is early July.

* (NEW) Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) – Flagging operations for I-64 median barrier project work.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 616 (Rich Patch Road) – Box culvert replacement at Karnes Creek. Single-lane traffic with stop and proceed sign. Roadway is restricted to a 10-foot width. Single-lane traffic will be in place 24 hours-a-day until mid-October. Work zone will be active on weekdays from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Motorists should use extreme caution in this area and watch for construction vehicles.

* (NEW) Route 619 – Spot paving, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 640 – Spot paving, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 661 – Spot paving, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 687 – Spot paving, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 1011 – Bridge replacement in Selma area between Route 1002 and Route 1003. Road will be closed Monday to Thursday. Detour signs in place.

* Various roads – Mowing, Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57 eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various locations – Herbicide spraying. Mobile right lane closure, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various locations – Paved ditch maintenance and inlet maintenance. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, northbound and southbound – Truck climbing lane project. Estimated completion fall 2012. The right northbound lane from mile marker 200 to 202.7 will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., weeknights, for concrete barrier installation. Signs posted.

* Mile marker 174 to 205 northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various locations – Herbicide spraying. Mobile right lane closure, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various locations – Paved ditch maintenance, inlet maintenance and limb removal. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Various locations – Wildflower plot maintenance. Tuesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 – Mowing around guardrails from Lexington City limits to Boutetourt County line.  Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Route 130 (Glasgow) – Bridge construction at Route 501. New traffic pattern. Periodic single-lane traffic withflagger traffic control, signs posted. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 7 am to noon. Use extreme caution as motorists become acquainted with new traffic pattern. Estimated completion is September 2010.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing at intersections, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 610 (Plank Road), northbound and southbound – Road will be closed at the Route 693 (High Bridge Church Road) intersection for a bridge replacement project at Spring Gap Creek. The closure will begin on May 3 and last until June 24. Motorists may detour this area by using Route 692 and Route 693. Detour and road closed signs posted in the work zone area.

* Various roads – Brush cutting, grading, spot patching, guardrail and right-of-way mowing. Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting around signs, grading, mowing, spot patching and spot paving Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Debris removal on various hard-surfaced rods.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Flagger traffic control.

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205 to 237 northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various locations – Herbicide spraying. Mobile right lane closure, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various locations – Limb removal, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Various locations – Wildflower plot maintenance. Tuesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 – Paving with lane closures from Staunton southern city limits to 0.02 mile south of Route 262.  Flagger traffic control, Wednesday through Saturday 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

* Route 42 – Mossy Creek project. Roadway relocation and bridge replacement with box culvert. Work will occur from 0.63 mile south of Rockingham County line to 0.90 mile south of Rockingham County line. Expect minor delays Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Two lanes of roadway will be maintained.

* (NEW) Route 42 – Paving in Craigsville area from Route 687 to 1.2 miels north of Route 1130.  Work is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Flagger traffic control.

* Churchville Avenue (Route 250, Staunton), eastbound – Road reconstruction activities. North Central Avenue is open to traffic. No left turn will be allowed from Churchville Avenue onto North Lewis Street. North Lewis Street is open to northbound traffic only. The eastbound lane will be closed from North Augusta Street (Route 11) to Albemarle Avenue 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. The pedestrian detour is from North Augusta Street to North Lewis Street. Signs are posted.

Expect intermittent delays from North Augusta Street to Albemarle Avenue due to utility installation work. Intermittent flagger traffic control for work in westbound lane. Speed limit in the project area reduced to 25 miles-per-hour. Four recommended detours for eastbound Churchville Avenue traffic heading into Staunton business district from Route 262/Route 250 interchange are to North Augusta Street:

  • Take Route 250 and turn right onto Grubert Avenue and then turning left onto West Beverly Street, which intersects with North Augusta Street.
  • Take Route 250 and turn right onto Thornrose Avenue and then turning left on to West Beverly Street, which intersects with North Augusta Street.
  • Take Churchville Avenue and turn left onto Springhill Road to Route 262. Turn right onto Route 262 north to the Route 11 intersection. Turn right onto Route 11 and take Route 11 bypass (Commerce Road) into Staunton.
  • At the Route 262/Route 250 interchange – take Route 262 north to the Route 11 intersection. Turn right onto Route 11 and take Route 11 bypass (Commerce Road) into Staunton.

* Route 250, eastbound – Paving with lane closures from Route 1427 to 0.06 mile east of Route 637. Single-lane traffic with flagger traffic control, Monday to Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Route 340 (Waynesboro) –Delphine Avenue project. Clean up work at construction site. Be alert for slow moving vehicles and clean-up activities. All lanes are open.

* Various locations – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 693 (Cedar Green Road) – Bridge maintenance at the bridge over C&O railway from 0.06 mile north of Route 703 south and 0.03 mile south of Route 703 north. Single-lane traffic, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 694 (Chestnut Ridge Road) – Rustic road construction from Route 695 (Arborhill Road) to Route 693 (Bethel Green Road). Road closed 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 14 to July 22.

* Route 694 (Swartzel Shop Road) – Bridge replacement at Christians Creek tributary from Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Road closed with detour. Work is Tuesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is June 28.

* (NEW) Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Directional bore – road work from Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) to Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road).  Road closed to thru traffic Tuesday, June 16 to Tuesday, June 22, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

* Route 907 – Bridge over Christians Creek is closed. No reopening date has been scheduled.

* Various roads – Surface treatment. Single-lane traffic controlled by pilot truck and flaggers, Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

* Various locations – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 242.15 to 252.50, northbound and southbound – Median barrier project. Remove and replace existing median guardrail with high tension cable median barrier. Temporary lane closures northbound and southbound 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday to Thursday to remove and replace existing guardrail.

* Mile marker 245.5 to 245.4 – Underground fiber optic cable installation, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 237 to 263.9 – Mowing, Monday to Friday. Right shoulder mowing to occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nighttime mobile lane closure for median mowing, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Mile marker 237.51 to 263 northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 42 (Warm Springs Pike) – Cable work from Bridgewater Town limits south to Augusta County line. Right shoulder closure, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Cable work from Route 825 (South River Road) to Route 655 (Lawyer Road). Right shoulder closure, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Road widening project from Route 704 (Boyers Road) to Harrisonburg City limits. Storm pipe work. Be alert for possible lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stone Spring Road will be closed to thru traffic from Port Republic Road to Peach Grove Avenue. A detour on Stone Spring Road lasting from June 11 at 6 p.m. until June 21 at 6 p.m. will be implemented as follows:

  • Stone Spring Road eastbound traffic headed to Port Republic Road will turn left onto Peach Grove Avenue and then turn right onto Port Republic Road.
  • Port Republic Road traffic at the Stone Spring Road intersection wishing to access westbound Stone Spring Road will detour to Peach Grove Avenue and then turn onto Stone Spring Road.

Citizens living on Stone Spring Road, between Peach Grove Avenue and Port Republic Road, will be directed to the intersection of Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue for access. 

 

Secondary Roads 

* Route 619 (Piney Woods Road) – Spot widening 1.3 miles northeast of Route 890 (Buckley Road). Single-lane closure with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 682 (Friedens Church Road) – Entrance and utility work from Route 950 (Walton Way) to I-81 Interchange. Right shoulder closure, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Road work from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Harrisonburg City Limits. Eastbound lane and shoulder closure, flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Waterline work at Route 1173 (Nutmeg Court). Intermittent lane closures and flagger traffic control, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 765 (Gravels Road) – Water line installation from Route 11 (North Valley Pike) to Route 720 (Shirttail Alley). Right shoulder closure, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 799 (Piney Woods Road) – Columbia Gas work from Route 211 (New Market Road) to Route 619 (Wampler Road). Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Intermittent shoulder closure. Flagger traffic control.

* Route 800 (Long Meadow Drive) – Columbia Gas work from Route 800 (Lone Pine Road) to Route 619 (Wampler Road). Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Intermittent shoulder closure. Flagger traffic control.

* Route 800 (American Legion Drive) – Columbia Gas work from Route 801 (Holsinger Road) to end of state maintenance. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Intermittent shoulder closure. Flagger traffic control.

* Route 801 (Holsinger Road) – Columbia Gas work from Route 800 (American Legion Drive) to Route 619 (Wampler Road). Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Intermittent shoulder closure. Flagger traffic control.

* Route 820 (Bergton Road) – Motorists should be alert for travel delays of up to 20 minutes for road construction and slope work. Work zone is 1.10 miles to 0.30 mile west of Route 259. Single-lane closures with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday during daylight hours as needed. Blasting Operations will also occur Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Delays up to one hour should be expected during these times. Completion is November 2010.

* Route 890 (Buckley Road) – Columbia Gas work from Route 619 (Wampler Road) to end of state maintenance. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Intermittent shoulder closure. Flagger traffic control.

* Route 981 (Rockingham. Pike) – Turn lane installation from Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) to Route 829 (Independent Road). Right shoulder closure, intermittent detour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Work zone is Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 675 – Bridge repairs on the bridge over North Fork Shenandoah River from 0.25 mile east of Edinburg town limits to 0.88 mile west of Route 1430. Single-lane traffic, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday.

* Route 744 (Deer Rapids) – Bridge over Shenandoah River. Bridge work from 0.30-mile east of Route 648 to 0.45-mile east of Route 648. Traffic controlled by flaggers as needed during daylight hours, Monday to Friday. Estimated completion is April 14, 2011.

* (NEW) Various roads – Pipe cleaning, patching, mowing, pipe replacement and brush cutting.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 302 to 307 northbound and southbound – Ditch cleaning, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 at Route 37, Kernstown area – Traffic signal and turn lane installation. Single-lane traffic with twelve-foot width restriction beginning June 1. Estimated completion is June 15.

* (UPDATE) Route 37, southbound – Paving from Route 11 to Route 50 interchange. Alternating lane closures, Sunday to Thursday night, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, June 18 at 8 p.m. until Saturday, June 19 at 8 a.m., north and south ramps to hospital will close.  Message boards in place on Friday, June 11 and run until Friday, June 18.

* Route 50 (Northwestern Pike, Hayfield area), eastbound – Road and shoulder work from 2.0 miles east of Route 688 to 2.75 miles east of Route 688. Eastbound lane closed Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Estimated completion is June 16.

* (NEW) Various roads – Sweeping.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 622 – Pavement marking work from Route 621 to Winchester City limits, nighttime operations, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Slow moving equipment and delays should be expected.

* (NEW) Route 652 – Pavement marking work from Route 11 to Route 628, nighttime operations, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Slow moving equipment and delays should be expected.

* (NEW) Route 656 – Pavement marking work from Route 7 to Route 657, nighttime operations, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Slow moving equipment and delays should be expected.

* (NEW) Route 659 – Pavement marking work from Route 7 west to Route 656, nighttime operations, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Slow moving equipment and delays should be expected.

* (NEW) Route 671 – Back Creek Bridge, bridge repairs.  Single lane traffic controlled by signs.

* (NEW) Route 803 – Pavement marking work from Route 50 east to 0.5 mile west of Route 50, nighttime operations, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Slow moving equipment and delays should be expected.

* Route 604 (Gravel Springs Road) – Bridge replacement from 0.33 miles south of Route 603 to 0.6 mile north of Route 600. Road closed from May 17 at 7 a.m. until late June 2010. Detour:

Southbound traffic will use Route 603 (Brill Road) West to Route 600 (South Pifer Road) South to Route 604 (Gravel Springs Road).

Northbound traffic will use Route 600 (South Pifer Road) North to Route 603 (Brill Road) East to Route 604 (Gravel Springs Road).

* (NEW) Various roads – Patching, ditching and mowing.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 7 – Drainage work in Berryville area.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 613 – Tree trimming from Route 618 to 1.46 miles north of Route 618. Single-lane traffic controlled by flaggers, Saturday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

* Route 618 (Lockes Mill Road) – Implementation of new traffic pattern at intersection of Route 613 (Springsbury Road) effective June 9. Signs posted.

* Route 621 – Tree trimming from 1.54 miles south of Route 7 to Route 613. Single-lane traffic controlled by flaggers, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing and brush cutting.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

* Mile marker 0 to 13, eastbound – Debris removal and ditch cleaning. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 6.4 to 10.4 – Paving Sunday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.  Alternating lane closures.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 298 to 300 northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Secondary Roads

* Route 1026 (Happy Creek Road) Front Royal area – Road improvement project from Sixth Street and Bradford Drive to near Route 606 (Shenandoah Shores Road). Temporary lane closures 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.
