LANE MARKING WORK TO CLOSE SOUTHBOUND NEW MARKET REST AREA FOR SEVERAL HOURS

STAUNTON – Installation of permanent lane markings at the Interstate 81 southbound New Market Safety Rest Area is scheduled for Thursday, March 4.  The rest area will close from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. on March 4 for this work. This location is near the Rockingham and Shenandoah county line.

Crews will install dashed lane markings along the rest area entrance ramp and exit ramps adjoining the right travel lane on I-81.  Solid lines were painted in this area when the rest areas were closed last year and these lines now need to be eradicated.

Temporary markings were being used during the work in January and February to recommission the rest area.  However, winter weather prevented the installation of the permanent lane markings.

All work is weather permitting.

This work is being completed prior to the start of the spring and summer travel season.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
